Lobelia is hiring a Back-End Software Engineer to strengthen its core product team.
1. What you will do
Your primary role will be to design, develop, test, deploy and maintain new elements of the operational processing chains to monitor the Earth’s natural resources. At Lobelia, this means getting to know the ins and outs of satellite data access, big data processing chains, optimisation and preparation of analysis-ready data, dealing with AI/ML models, geospatial processing, cloud infrastructure, and last but not least user-focused back-end and front-end implementation.
We’re looking for a seasoned software engineer that loves creating solid solutions to challenging problems, and that can own major parts of the system. You’ll be developing quick prototypes which will evolve towards sustainable tools in response to the R&D Team.
2. What you will bring
Must-haves include:
- A systematic, analytical approach to problem solving
- A love for software, and for shipping software
- Extensive knowledge of JavaScript in a wide range of environments, as well as its ecosystem
- Experience developing for the back-end (e.g. designing and implementing APIs, developing algorithms, accessing back-end services and databases) as well as for the web
- Focus on detail for a solid architectural design and optimum performance, as well as appealing UX
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
Nice-to-haves include:
- A master’s degree in Computer Science or similar
- Experience in the remote sensing field (e.g. geospatial analysis tools and standards, satellite data processing techniques, etc.) or in data science
- Knowledge of the Python language and ecosystem
- Knowledge of WASM, WebGL, and other advanced web-related technologies
- DevOps skills, including clustering and containerisation
